Palette Pop-Up, Clarendon Yards, Wood Green, London, 2020

This project was for a series of pop-up spaces as part of the Clarendon Yards Development in Wood Green London. The brief included the creation of a low-cost, fast assembly modular solution for the spaces that would compliment the existing use of the site. This included a craft brewery, co-working spaces and a CrossFit gym.

Modular Infill Space

We used simple, off-the shelf materials to clad the covered walkway to the side of the building. This created a semi-indoor walkway that functioned as a market hall at the weekends. The materials used were metal reinforcement bars and concrete hollow core blocks. These were arranged on a similar grid that aligned with the dimensions of the existing concrete colonnade.

Grid Plan = Flexibility

As the existing building was an old warehouse, we set up the pop-up on a similar grid, which is also exactly proportional to the dimensions of a standard palette. This grid allows for complete flexibility to interchange the palette layouts to suit use of the  adjoining spaces.

From Bike Sheds to Flower Beds

The spaces we have designed range from bike sheds to raised vegetable beds for community gardening. They also include a range of informal seating spaces for office workers, gym users and weekend beers drinkers to enjoy!

Easy Assembly

The key element in the scheme design is the ease of assembly and disassembly. The readily available materials and simple construction process were a vital element in the success of this project.

Sustainability in Simplicity

As the a key component of the brief was sustainability, the construction and design of the palette pop-up allows for each palette to be used upon completion of the project. The simple bolted connection between palettes further facilitates this process.
